Thank You

Just popping in to say thank  you to all that visited me here during the Blogger's Quilt Festival!!  It was so much fun!  Although the prizes were amazing, that is not the reason I joined in on the fun, but  I did end up receiving a six month subscription to Make Modern magazine, how exciting is that!!

Hope you're enjoying the fall weather and getting some quilty stitching done!!  Will be back soon with some updates on things I'm working on.

October is here...

Hi all!!  The summer flew by, I blinked and September was gone.  The fall flowers are in bloom, the leaves are turning, slowly but surely.  I have a few tomatoes still hanging on and ever so slowly ripening.  My rose is even trying to make the summer last with one last bloom!!  And that poor lonely Day Lily really makes me smile every time I walk by and see her smiling up at me.  The days are pleasantly warm but the evenings and mornings are crisp with that chill in the air.  Of course I love my morning coffee, actually I can't function without it, but I also enjoy my cuppa tea while I stitch away once the chill of autumn air nips at my fingers and nose.  I used to absolutely hate when autumn arrived, knowing that winter with all it's fury of cold and snow would soon follow, but now I'm kinda savoring it.  I look at it that winter = more sewing time!!

I've started a second clamshell quilt while relaxing in the evenings.  I hand sew them together with the applique method.  There a several ways to make these but I find this method works well for me.  I had been eyeing the clamshell quilts for a while but thought it would be to hard to do,,,,after finding Sue Daley's method (*her site is down as I write this-I will try to get it for when I do a Clamshell specific post*) I've become quite smitten and obsessed with them *wink*

And I finally got the Tshirt/memory quilt pieced together that I've been working on for my cousin's daughter.  I'm slowly piecing the borders together now,,,and I will have more about that later too!

I hope you are enjoying October so far,,,,,,

Bloggers Quilt Festival - Applique

Work in progress.

Spring Garden mini quilt in peach and blue

The two Spring Garden Cushions

For my second entry into the Bloggers Quilt Festival I am entering my "Spring Garden"  mini quilt into the Applique Quilt category.  This is a pattern by Jo Avery of My Bear Paw, from the Today's Quilter Magazine, issue #7.

I really fell in love with this pattern.  After making up two pillow covers,  I just had to make one into a mini quilt for my wall in my sewing space.  I had fun using favorite colors and pieces of fabrics I had collected over the years, and of course  needle-turn applique is my fave!

I'd like to thank Amy for hosting this event for quilters to share their work and meet one another. Be sure to pop over to the Blogger's Quilt Festival to see all the wonderful quilts and don't forget to vote for your favorite!!

Thank you for stopping by and I hope you visit again.

A Finish - Long time coming.

Oh my lanta,,,I can hardly even remember when I started this quilt.  But I finally finished it just last spring.  I do know it was only the second or third quilt I had started, I kept telling myself I couldn't take up quilting as I did a lot of custom sewing, (baby bonnets, bridal alterations, pants hemming!)  I was working at Hobby Lobby managing the fabric department and I would get fabrics that caught my eye, either for the color or the print.  I didn't have a favorite designer, or fabric line, or even much knowledge of how to buy fabric for quits.  Being a seamstress I bought fabric by the yards, 2-4 at a time so I had enough to make a top, a skirt or a dress.  I had all this pretty fabric and decided to use it to make this quilt called Just Peachy.  It is a Cotton Pickin Design's pattern I found in a Leisure Arts book.

Obviously that was before I even knew about blogging so there are no in progress pictures.  Once I had the top pieced it just hung around like  f o r e v e r,,,  then I discovered that I could actually quilt it on my domestic machine, YAY!!   I did  simple cross-hatch quilting to make sure I would get it done.   I was a pink and purple type of gal back then with floral thrown in for good measure haha!  But I like seeing the progression of my quilty journey, Hoping that in the middle of  a long cold winter this will brighten my day and remind me that Spring will come.

Have a Quilty kinda day!

Bloggers Quilt Festival

Amy Ellis of  Amy's Creative Side is once again hosting the Bloggers Quilt Festival.  I have visited the festival in years past and been inspired by the wonderful quilts entered in the festival!   Check out all the excitement and meet new quilters, you won't be disappointed!

Hi and welcome if you are visiting from the Bloggers Quilt Festival!!  I'm not the best blogger OR quilt maker but I love what I do and enjoy meeting new people and learning new things!

One of things I truly love is needle-turn applique and have been enjoying, more and more, the look of modern quilts.  This mini quilt is a pattern by Carolyn Friedlander from her class on Creative Bug.

I have a few larger needle-turn applique projects on the go, but this was a fun to do and somewhat of a quick finish.  I'm happy with the way it turned out.  I love the colors, even though I'm a lover of "blue",  the gray and gold, from her Botanics line is calming to me.  I hand quilted it with an Aurifil  12wt thread in charcoal and added one row of teal quilting  around the outside of the applique for just a little contrast and pop of interest.

So excited to share this with you and actually enter this into the the Mini Quilt Category of the Bloggers Quilt Festival!!

Have a Quilty kinda day!

Lets try this again!!

Hi all !  Yeah I'm still alive and sewing.  I post mostly on Instagram cause I'm either too busy or too lazy, haha!!  So if you want to see what I'm working on, on a regular basis be sure to follow me on IG .

I am going to try to post here more often, (I've said that before!) now that some things have calmed down, AND  I'm working on a few new projects at the moment and a few more coming up in the near future.  Writing it down here so as to push myself to continue cataloging my journey in quilting and other adventures I come across,,, or fall into!

Have a Quilty kinda day!

B-I-N-G-O !!

Angie of Gnome Angel is having a little game of BINGO for this weeks link up party for the Farmers Wife 1930's Sampler Quilt Sew A Long!  The blocks chosen for the game are #1 Addie, #8 Aunt, #16 Bonnie, #24 Coral and #94 Susannah.

I hand stitched them all except #1 Addie (lower left),,,I was behind a bit and I thought could make it quicker by paper piecing, yeah right!!  Any how I'm still enjoying slow stitching my Farmer's Wife 1930's Quilt Sampler in the sew a long.

Are you stitching along?  How are you doing with your blocks?

Until next time

Happy Stitching
